How to use the daily drawdown calculator
- Pick your firm to set its method and daily %, or choose the method yourself.
- Enter the account size and the start-of-day (or previous close) balance; add the previous close equity if your firm counts the higher of the two.
- Enter your current equity, with open trades.
- Read today's floor, the room left and how much of the day's limit is used; the table shows when it resets.
Balance-based or equity-based: the three methods
| Method | Today's floor | Example (5%, $100,000) | Used by (checked 27 October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| % of the initial balance below the start-of-day balance | start-of-day balance − % × initial | start $102,000 → floor $97,000 | FTMO (00:00 CE(S)T), FundedNext (00:00 server time) |
| % of the previous day's balance | previous balance × (1 − %) | $105,000 at 4% → $100,800 | FXIFY (balance at 5 PM EST) |
| % of the higher of the previous close balance or equity | max(balance, equity) × (1 − %) | balance $100,000, equity $101,000 at 3% → $97,970 | The5%ers 2-Step rules FAQ |
At all four firms the current equity, open trades included, is what has to stay above the floor: a floating loss can break the rule even if the trade later recovers. A trade left open over the reset carries its floating loss into the new day.

Worked example
A $100,000 FTMO 2-Step account starts the day at $102,000. The floor is 102,000 − 5% × 100,000 = $97,000. With equity at $99,000 there is $2,000 of room, and 60% of the day's $5,000 allowance is used. On an FXIFY account the same day would be measured from the previous day's 5 PM balance: at $105,000 and 4% the floor is $100,800.
The prop firm drawdown calculator adds the maximum loss (static, trailing or end-of-day trailing) and the distance to the target; the drawdown recovery calculator shows what a loss takes to win back.

Questions
How is the daily drawdown calculated at prop firms?
Three common ways: a % of the initial balance below the start-of-day balance (FTMO, FundedNext), a % of the previous day's balance (FXIFY), or a % of the higher of the previous close balance and equity (The5%ers 2-Step FAQ).
Is the daily loss limit based on balance or equity?
The floor is set from a balance (or the higher of balance and equity), but your current equity, open trades included, is what must stay above it.
When does the daily drawdown reset?
FTMO at 00:00 CE(S)T, FundedNext at 00:00 server time (GMT+2 / +3), FXIFY at 5 PM New York time, The5%ers at 00:00 MT5 server time. In Pakistan that is around 02:00-04:00 at night.
Does a profit earlier in the day raise the daily limit?
With the start-of-day method the floor does not move during the day, so a profit gives you more room above it.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs in your browser and does not send or store what you type.
