How to use the consistency rule calculator
- Pick your firm's rule or type the % yourself.
- Enter your total profit so far and your best single day.
- Optionally enter the profit target to see the biggest day allowed at the target.
- Read whether you are within the rule, the extra profit needed and the most you can make today.
The consistency rule formulas
- Best day share = best day ÷ total profit. The rule is met when it is at or below the firm's %.
- Extra profit needed on other days when you are over = best day ÷ rule − total profit.
- Most you can make today and stay within (if today becomes the best day) = rule × total ÷ (1 − rule).
- Biggest day allowed at the target = rule × target.
Worked example
A 50% rule. Total profit $6,000, of which the best day made $4,000: 4,000 ÷ 6,000 = 66.7%, over the rule.
- Total profit has to reach 4,000 ÷ 0.5 = $8,000, so $2,000 more on other days, without a new best day above $4,000.
- If you are within the rule at $6,000 total, today could make up to 0.5 × 6,000 ÷ 0.5 = $6,000 and still be fine.
- For a $10,000 target, no single day may make more than $5,000.
Consistency rules differ: some count the best day against total profit, others against the profit of positive days only, some apply only to the funded account or a payout type, and at some firms going over is not a breach but means more trading. The article prop firm consistency rule explained compares FTMO, FundedNext and The5%ers in detail.

Questions
How do you calculate a prop firm consistency rule?
Divide your best day by your total profit. With a 50% rule, a $4,000 best day needs at least $8,000 of total profit.
What happens if I break the consistency rule?
It depends on the firm: at some it is not a breach and you simply trade until the ratio is met; at others a payout is refused. Read your firm's rules.
How much can I make in one day with a 40% consistency rule?
At most 40% of your total profit including that day: 0.4 × total ÷ 0.6 of the profit you had before the day.
Which firms have a consistency rule?
On 27 Oct 2026: FTMO 1-Step (50%), FundedNext's On-Demand reward (40%) and FXIFY's 2-Phase Classic live account (25%). FTMO 2-Step, FundedNext's challenge phases and The5%ers High Stakes list none.
